Cryosource

Cryosource

for Laser Experiments

The cryosource manufactured by REUTER TECHNOLOGIE was specifically developed for an experimental station at the European XFEL. It generates finely focused liquid jets with gases at temperatures down to -269 °C (4 K), enabling the study of matter under extreme conditions. The setup allows the liquid sample to be precisely positioned in the focus of X-ray pulses, making ultrafast processes at the atomic level visible.

The source was specified together with the user team and entirely manufactured in-house. Integration into the existing experimental chamber was carried out under strict requirements for geometric precision, thermal stability, and vacuum compatibility.

Applications

Ultrafast X-ray analytics using liquid targets

Research on plasma and matter states under extreme pressure and temperature

Pump-probe experiments at free-electron lasers (FEL)

Key Features

  • Operating temperature down to 4 K (liquid helium level)
  • Particle-free manufacturing and cleaning for UHV environments
  • Integrated high-precision flanges for secure integration in complex setups
  • Thermal decoupling and insulation for stable long-term operation
  • Successfully tested and validated at the European XFEL experimental station

With the cryosource for the European XFEL, REUTER TECHNOLOGIE delivers a high-performance component for research on matter under extreme conditions. Its design for minimal vibration, stable cryogenic guidance, and precise positioning enables internationally recognized research institutions to gain new insights into high-energy physics and ultrafast structural analysis.
