The Pumping Port, also known as a mode converter, is a highly precise component for the efficient transfer of electromagnetic waves between a rectangular and a circular waveguide. It is used in high-frequency systems such as linear accelerators (LINAC) and particle accelerators to transmit microwave power of up to 100 kW with minimal loss.
The core of the component is the taper, consisting of two precisely machined copper halves joined into a dense and robust unit by high-temperature brazing. A shape accuracy of 2 µm and extremely smooth surfaces ensure low-loss performance.
Precise guidance of microwaves in medical systems (e.g., radiation therapy) and industrial applications
Control and monitoring of beams in high-energy physics (e.g., CERN)
Microwave transmission in fusion research and plasma systems
The Pumping Port is a key component in high-frequency systems, meeting the highest standards for performance, precision, and vacuum compatibility. With ultra-precision milling and high-temperature brazing, it fulfills extreme tolerance and load demands, enabling reliable transmission of microwave power up to 100 kW. An essential element in modern high-energy and fusion research.
