What Are the Differences?

We are often asked which material is best for a specific application. This question cannot be answered universally, as the choice of suitable material depends greatly on the specific requirements and areas of application. Below, we highlight some properties of the two materials most commonly used by us.

Stainless steel is particularly characterized by its corrosion resistance. Thanks to its high chromium content, which forms a protective oxide layer, stainless steel is ideal for applications where durability and hygiene are paramount. For this reason, stainless steel is frequently found in cleanroom technology, medical devices, and many other areas where cleanliness is crucial.

Copper is known for its excellent conductivity, both in terms of electricity and heat. These properties make copper the preferred material in numerous high-tech applications involving high energy densities. It is often used in cryogenic technology, medical technology, telecommunications, analytics, thin-film and semiconductor technology, as well as in aerospace. Particularly in applications requiring efficient cooling, copper proves to be an optimal material.

What unites both materials are their excellent surface outgassing rates and exceptional brazability in vacuum. These properties are especially important for cooling solutions and components that are vacuum brazed. Due to these common characteristics, copper and stainless steel can be optimally combined and further processed.
