Brazing of Thermally Sensitive Components with ColdBraze®

Vacuum-tight material combinations of aluminium

With the ColdBraze® process, REUTER TECHNOLOGIE GmbH offers an innovative joining technology to braze a variety of materials. As opposed to the conventional soft brazing process, the ColdBraze® process removes oxides directly from the surfaces. This leads to the formation of homogeneous, cavity-free material joints. The ColdBraze® technology does not require any fluxes. The braze alloys used do not contain lead or other heavy metals. The processes are suitable for joining metals, light metals, composite materials and technical ceramics as well as magnetic and strongly porous materials.

A special strength of this process is the production of vacuum-tight joints of aluminium and other materials such as ceramics or stainless steel. Tests have shown that the outgassing rates of ColdBraze® joints drop to a range which can otherwise only be achieved in joining processes under vacuum (e.g. electron beam welding, vacuum brazing). The vacuum tightness of the joints up to
10-10mbar*l/s was verified in a helium leakage test.

In the ColdBraze® process, REUTER TECHNOLOGIE can process parts up to 3,500 mm x 400 mm. The process is applicable in the temperature range up to 260°C. The following materials were already combined:

  • Light metals such of aluminium, aluminium foams or titanium
  • Porous materials
  • Magnetic materials
  • Composite materials
  • Technical ceramics
  • Glass
  • Diamond, carbon
  • Targets
  • Cooling plates, heat exchangers, sensors, etc.
